Our service

My Future Starts Here was intially created in response to the unprecedented gaps in the guidance and support available to learners caused by the closure of the Connexions service in East Sussex and the ending of the Aimhigher initiative during the summer of 2011. For many young people in the area the loss of these important services has a real impact.

The gap which has been created brings the risk of fragmentation, loss of consistency and lack of equal opportunity. The futures of our young people will be influenced and shaped by the choices they make during their time in education. It is our belief that they deserve dedicated and informed professional guidance in the process of making these very important decisions.

Our launch event was a two-day free advice service for young people at Priory Meadow shopping centre in Hastings at the end of August 2011 after A level and GCSE results came out. The event was informative, and left us in no doubt that the need for reliable information advice and guidance is by no means confined to the under-19s. The world of work today is characterised by rapid and dynamic change. Old certainties are giving way to unpredictable challenges. It is not only those at the start of their working lives who experience transition and need to plan their next steps.

Regardless of age and circumstances, the person planning for a successful future will need:

  • confidence and resilience
  • clear personal goals and aspirations
  • accessible, impartial advice and guidance relevant to those goals
  • access to current, accurate and relevant work-related information
  • knowledge and understanding of progression routes
  • appropriate support with transition to new phases of learning or types of work

My Future Starts Here is on hand to support that journey to success.
