The Context
The world of work today is characterised by rapid and dynamic change. Old certainties are giving way to unpredictable challenges. It is not only those at the start of their working lives who experience transition and need to plan their next steps.
Regardless of age and circumstances, the individual planning for a successful future will need:
- confidence and resilience
- clear personal goals and aspirations
- accessible, impartial advice and guidance relevant to those goals
- access to current, accurate and relevant work-related information
- knowledge and understanding of progression routes
- appropriate support with transition to new phases of learning or types of work
My Future Starts Here is on hand to support that journey to success.
The purpose of the service
My Future Starts Here came into being in August 2011 with the aim of providing career guidance and support, promoting inclusion and raising aspiration for the young people of East Sussex. Our service launched with a two day GCSE results advice service in Hastings town centre
During our first year we were commissioned by a small number of local schools to deliver a range of CEIAG services, and undertook some work for ESCC. We also started to establish active links with local employers, community partners and training providers.
The year had a number of highlights, including the company being featured in a national careers publication, Careers Guidance Today, the magazine of the Institute of Career Guidance; being consulted as part of preparation of the County CEIAG strategy and for a local report and being cited as an example of good practice at a county CEIAG conference.
In September 2012, we celebrated a very positive first year with a reception to thank all those who we worked with and whose support was invaluable.
We are currently working with a large number of secondary schools, and with colleges and other organisations offering post-16 learning. We also work with individuals of all ages. We continue to welcome enquiries and will offer customised provision in response to your needs.
The futures of our young people will be influenced and shaped by the choices they make in the course of their time in education and training. It is our belief that they deserve dedicated and informed professional guidance in the process of making these important decisions.
Equally important are the needs of adults, whether seeking their first employment, or having to navigate the unexpected as a result of redundancy or workplace changes.
One thing we can be sure of is that change is continuous. We need to understand and be able to respond to a situation in which the capacity to adapt and refocus are essential skills.
We believe that individuals of all ages should have access to dedicated and informed professional guidance in this process.
